Crypto safety FAQ
Crypto safety questions, answered
Direct answers to the questions people actually ask about staying safe in crypto.
Can someone steal my crypto with just my wallet address?
No. Your public address only lets people send you funds or view your activity. Funds can only move with your private key or seed phrase, or an approval you signed. Never share your seed phrase, and review approvals.
Is it safe to connect my wallet to a website?
It can be, if you verify the exact URL first and review what you sign. The main risk is a fake site that copies a real one. Reach sites via bookmarks, not links, and revoke approvals when done.
Is it safe to sign a message with my wallet?
Not always. Signatures like Permit and Permit2 can authorize token transfers. Only sign messages you can decode and understand. If you did not start the action, treat it as suspicious.
Can a token stop me from selling it?
Yes. A honeypot token lets you buy but blocks selling through hidden contract code. Scan a token's contract before buying to confirm selling is actually possible.
What should I do if I think my wallet is compromised?
Do not panic. Revoke approvals you do not recognize, move remaining funds to a fresh wallet, and stop using the exposed key. Acting in panic often makes it worse — check first.
Is it safe to claim an airdrop?
Claiming a real airdrop is fine, but fake airdrop pages route signatures into drainers. Verify from the official source yourself, never connect from a DM or ad, and check what you sign.
Do legitimate projects ever ask for my seed phrase?
Never. No legitimate wallet, exchange, support agent, or project will ever ask for your seed phrase or private key. Any such request is a scam.
Is it safe to revoke token approvals?
Yes, revoking approvals is safe and free, and it reduces your risk by closing the path an attacker could use to move tokens you previously approved.
